For the publication of any research paper, its soundness and quality matter a lot. Without quality, quantity does not matter. Removal of poor quality material is the priority for any researcher. For good evaluation of research, peer-review matters a lot. In peer review, you seek the assistance of another person. But make sure that person is compatible. It works when you go for qualified fellows who are professionals in the field. The main purpose of peer review is to ensure the standards and increase the credibility of writing. You have to see the acceptability of the research paper. It is well known that technology is getting advanced day by day. And it is affecting society on a large scale. So it is very important to check the sustainability of any research. That is why it becomes very important to go for peer review for any research before its publication. Peer-Review is taken as quality control for any work. With the help of peer-review, it becomes easy for researchers to see the work’s acceptability.

    Types Of Peer-Review

You can classify peer-review based on different activities. You can do it based on the field and specification of work. Also, different approaches are used for peer review. Peer review has three major categories. They are termed open review, single-blind peer review and double-blind peer review. Let’s discuss these different terms.

    Open Review

In an open review, you have to show the author’s identity and the reviewer. So, in this case, both remain conscious about their work. In this reviewer has to be careful about delays and completions. Here he has to be honest, but terms and conditions are applied. He has to see that he cannot be disrespectful. The best thing about the open review is the plagiarism control. In this, plagiarism amongst authors is discouraged. Although the open review has more check-in, it causes fear in the author and reviewer. Both of them feel fear for being honest. If a reviewer is polite, he may face criticism.

It may look like he is not criticising because of his known identity. He cares about his reputation and is not honest in reviews. In an open review, the main difficulty is to handle work or a more admired author. For example, you are new in the field of peer review. And you are given the work of the senior author. Here is a junior you will surely be in two minds while criticising. You may be careful about your long term relationship with the author. If you are facing any issues, you have the option to get dissertation help from experts.

    Single-Blind Peer-Review

In single-blind peer-review, you do not have to add the reviewer’s name with the name of the author. In short, you can say the name of the reviewer is hidden from the list of authors. The use of single-blind peer review is common because here, the reviewer adds honest analysis. He knew his name would not be added, and he has the freedom to add his paper critique. He can criticise without any fear. In case you have to work for your supervisor. With known identity, you may have a fear of working honestly. But an unknown identity saves you from fear. Reviewer is independent in his decisions. Although it is not appreciative still, its use is common to see.

Most of the time, you have to face some drawbacks because of the reviewer. If there were any mistakes in the research, it would not affect the reviewer. But the only loss will be of author because he is known to everyone. In single-blind peer review, you know the author’s name to check the author’s credibility. As the identity of the reviewer is private so you cannot check it. But the accuracy and authenticity of a researcher are only based on author. So you have to be very careful if you prefer single-blind peer review for your research. It is fewer advantages in terms of checking credibility. But it is the most commonly used type of peer review.

    Double-Blind Peer-Review

In a double-blind peer-review, you would not see the name of the reviewer as well as an author. Both remained unmade in it. In a double-blind peer review, you cannot check the credibility of the author or reviewer. That is why researchers mostly prefer single-blind peer-review rather than double-blind peer review. But the major advantage of double-blind peer review is the quality of work. The reader will be more focused on the quality of work rather than authors credibility. When reader focuses on the reputation of author, he spends lots of time checking it. And when an author is unknown, his focus converts to the research. Double-blind peer review helps to avoid biases from the research.

    Conclusion

So here, whatever the situation is, peer-review is important. You have to see that what category of peer review is suitable for you. Without peer reviews, you have to face many problems in your paper publication. And without publication, how can you show your efforts in the field of research. The only thing is you have to take peer review positively. Without doing so, you will surely get stuck. It helps you to make sure that the quality of your research is totally fine. You may lack in the exact significance of the research. But peer review helps you to get the rationality and originality of your research.

On the other hand, it also paves your road to success, as publishing a research paper is no less than an achievement for the researcher. So peer review is the best way that pave your road for publication. Especially when you are at beginner level, you lack in many things. You may think that you did best. But it may not be best. Then peer review serves you the best. It provides you with suitable suggestions. You can easily identify your errors and work on those. When you find your errors, you will surely explore more in that specific research area. These all are the reasons that why peer-review matters.
